Kim and Lee always wanted a child together.
They each brought two beautiful children from previous marriages,
Ashlee, Matthew, Eric, and Marissa, now all grown up. So,
after 11 years together, Kim and Lee planned their sweet little
Shaylah. But Kim didn't know an obstetrician or have a hospital
in mind.
"Honestly, when I first suspected I was
pregnant, I didn't consider going to Sauk Prairie. It's not
one of the larger hospitals, and I was going to need a C-section,"
says Kim. Then she talked with several girlfriends who had
babies at Sauk Prairie, "At the hospital they all got a lot
of attention; they felt like they were the only ones there."
Kim searched the Internet for the latest
medical trends and information about caesareans. When she
saw Dr. Schad, Kim was convinced. "He was very knowledgeable
about everything I brought to him. I knew I could trust him.
He listened to what we had to say and was never judgmental."
During the C-section, nurses stayed close
to Kim, and continually comforted her. Dr. Schad reassured
her the whole time. "They made me feel so safe," Kim
says. "This was remarkably different than my experiences at
the larger hospitals."
Kim recalls, with a smile, that Dr. Schad
sang, "Happy Birthday to You" to Shaylah when she was born.
Small things can mean a lot when you're having a baby.
"Dr. Schad never rushed us, no matter how
busy he was. He always checked to see how the whole family
was doing and joked around with us. And Lee was included in
everything. He really appreciated that," Kim says. "We would
go back in a heartbeat."
