No matter how much you love being a mom,
an unplanned pregnancy can cause despair. "To tell you the
truth, I was pretty depressed," says Heather. With three very
young daughters-the youngest about one year old-Heather and
Michael weren't ready to have another child. Heather made
an appointment to see Dr. Todd Schad, who had delivered Isabella
about a year earlier.
Heather recalls, "I went back because I
felt as if I was the only patient-that's how important Dr.
Schad made me feel." She had her first two girls, Brittany
and Hanna, in Madison. "I really loved my doctor, but I didn't
care for the larger hospitals. They take a long time to get
to you, and then they're too rushed," Heather says.
Heather admits that she first thought a
smaller hospital might not have the latest technology, but
when she arrived at Sauk Prairie Memorial she saw how well-equipped
it was. Plus, everyone was right there ready to help, even
though they were pretty busy.
So, after having Isabella at Sauk Prairie,
Heather and Michael trusted them. When she suspected another
pregnancy, Heather went back to Dr. Schad. It's a good thing
she did. "I was very upset and nearly in tears. He listened
and talked with me for an hour and even stayed past his regular
hours. I felt a lot better," says Heather.
Lindsay decided to enter the world late,
so mom went to the hospital to have labor induced. "I remember
Lindsay got stuck on her way out. Everyone was calm the whole
time and knew exactly what to do. It helped me a lot."
Heather and Michael, thrilled with their
four beautiful girls, aren't planning on more children. "But
if we were, we would go right back to Dr. Schad," says Heather.
