The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO) recently notified Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital &
Clinics that its laboratory has gained full accreditation.
The hospital's laboratory undergoes a survey process every
two years. Because JCAHO now surveys by tracer methodology,
the entire hospital and its clinics were part of the lab survey.
Tracer methodology is an evaluation method conducted during
an on-site survey designed to "trace" the care experiences
that a patient had while at the hospital. Using this method,
the surveyor reviews the care, treatment, and services provided
by the lab, other departments and units in the hospital, and
the clinics. The surveyor looks at how each of these areas
works together.
